Dustin and Dorothy Anne Dauenhauer Pregnancy

Faith in the midst of discouragement

Not too long ago, we were able to celebrate with our friends that they were soon to be parents to Baby #5! This time it was going to be a girl! … All of their kids are adorable and we were excited to join with them and welcome their precious bundle into the world.

But, a couple of months later, we heard that this was not going to be a normal pregnancy, but rather a high risk one. That is never easy to hear — but hey — we have a Big God! … We’ve heard many people who go through this and it all works out in the end.

But, as it turns out, this one was not going to be so straightforward as bed rest to keep one’s blood pressure down.

As it turns out, “according to the specialist doctor (their) baby had a diaphragmatic hernia, a heart defect and a cleft lip & palette.” Further testing showed that the new little one has  “one of the rarest chromosomal abnormalities affecting less than 1 out of 10,000-12,000 babies born,” Trisomy 13.

Unfortunately, their new little one they had already named Gracie Jade, has the high likelihood that she could die in utero, be a stillborn or die shortly after birth.

As you can imagine, this could be a difficult time for anyone. Those without a strong faith could walk away from this situation, cursing God, and leave their faith in the corner.

That was not the case for Dustin and Dorthy Anne Dauenhauer. What was their response? “Even if baby Gracie doesn’t live long and we don’t get the miracle we’ve been hoping for… Our changed lives will be the miracle. We will have more empathy, more compassion, more understanding, more love for people than ever before. That is the real miracle ~ our changed hearts.”

Wow. Their faith through the process is TRULY inspiring!

Join us in prayer for this precious family, and read Dorthy Anne’s post about it on their website in her post “The High Risk Pregnancy I Never Expected.”
