“If I were the Devil” – Quick Insight | Episode 32

Do you remember Paul Harvey? He was the the well known "Rest of the Story" cultural commentator whose voice of reason spanned several decades. I have fond memories of listening to Harvey on the bus rides to school each morning as the bus driver played them loudly so we could all get a dose of his clear logic before the school day began. This quick 7 minute podcast is a quick insight and an excerpt written from a 1966 newspaper article, from Harvey, followed by some thoughts from myself. We hope you enjoy it.

“When ministry becomes performance, then the sanctuary becomes a theater, the congregation becomes an audience, worship becomes entertainment, and man’s applause and approval become the measure of success. But when ministry is for the glory of God, his presence moves into the sanctuary. Even the unsaved visitor will fall down on his face, worship God, and confess that God is among us.”

10 Power Principles for Christian Service

“So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet.”
